Q for all photographers (pros and amateurs). What do you think about the camera brands Nikon, Canon and Sony?
What I mean is, what do you think of the brands, not the cameras themselves. What do the brands mean to you? Are any more approachable than others? Intimidating? What type of people use them? When you think of just going out and shooting, which one do you think of and why? What can any of these camera companies do to inspire you to shoot more? I know these are tough to answer, Thanks for your feedback.
The pros use Nikon and Canon, in part because of the large number of accessories and lenses available for these cameras. - Sony makes good cameras, but it is really an amateur brand - There are far fewer lenses available for Sony Digital SLRs. - However, Sony took over Minolta when Minolta got out of the camera business - And some older Minolta lenses will Fit Sony digital SLRs.
Canon is a much bigger company than Nikon - In recent years Canon has been a bit quicker to come out with fancy new models - but the Nikon D3, D300 and D700 took a leap ahead in their ability to shoot at high ISO speeds without much noise - and now Canon is catching up.
When Canon started selling autofocus cameras in the 1980s, it completely changed its lens mount. Among other changes, the opening to the camera was made larger which gave Canon flexibility in its lens designed. - Nikon did not change its mount - and as a result many older non autofocus lenses will work well on the higher priced Nikon Digital SLRS. (such as the D200, D300, D3 and D700). Other Nikon Digital Cameras may be able to use the old non autofocus lenses without metering.
